Have you ever heard someone say, “You can’t do that?” Has someone ever told you, “Good luck! You are going to need it!” In the world we live in, big dreams are often greeted with great doubts. But just for a moment, picture what Riverwood Community Chapel could be if we were “Walking by Faith” and not by logic. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 that “We walk by faith, not by sight.” Riverwood could be a place where things occur of Scriptural proportion.
Scripture is filled with stories of men and women walking by faith and not by sight. Abraham left home without knowing where God would send him once he left. David picked up five smooth stones and hurled them at the giant. Mary responded in faith to the declaration of Gabriel. Each of these individuals dreamed great dreams, and each of them probably had someone say, “You can’t do that!”
We have big dreams here at Riverwood. The greatest dream is to be a church that would make God proud. And like Abraham, we are still not completely sure where God is leading us in the future, but we are confident that God is telling us to step out in faith and “Go.”
Do we have all the answers yet? No we do not. But we do have a vision of a place where the spiritual and financial resources of God’s people are being used to the greatest extent to accomplish his command to love the Lord with all our heart soul and mind and love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). To reach that goal, we must walk by faith.
These next few sections outline what we believe to be the “first steps” in our walk of faith, and the journey of the Walk of Faith must start in these places. These are the places that will put us in a position to be ready for God’s mission when He makes it clear.
Hebrews 11:9 states that Abraham lived for years in tents because he was a stranger and pilgrim in a land. For years he did not know exactly where God would lead him, so he had to be ready to move whenever God spoke. He gave up the security of a house to be in what was seemingly a less secure place! In many ways our “Walk of Faith” gives up some security.
We are asking our community to sacrifice financially and physically in this journey. But this sacrifice is not one without a purpose. It is one that will put us in place to accomplish what God has in store for us. So I am asking you to prayerfully consider how you could be a part. Would you do that?
Unbelief looks at this journey and thinks, “This can’t happen!” The person who walks by faith says, “This can’t not happen if this is what God is asking us to do!” For those who walk by faith know the truth of Luke 1:37. NOTHING is impossible with God.
